VPN Connectivity Outage
Incident Report for Campus Technology Services Status
Resolved
Starting at approximately 6:50 a.m. yesterday, Nov. 14, the Cisco AnyConnect VPN became unavailable to remote workers off-campus and access to SUNY applications became unavailable or intermittent from on-campus. These issues were a result of a denial of service (DOS) attack where an inordinate amount of requests are sent to the campus network ultimately resulting in slow or no response rates.

Campus Technology Services (CTS) staff worked with our vendor to counter the attack and resolved it at approximately 5:42 p.m. yesterday, Nov. 14. The network and digital services should be working as expected including the VPN and SUNY applications.

Thank you for your patience as we worked through these issues.

If you have any questions or concerns related to this outage, please contact Campus Technology Services (CTS).

Update
Campus Technology Services (CTS) would like to provide an update on the VPN service and access to SUNY services issues.

We have been working to resolve these issues since they started at approximately 6:50 a.m. this morning, Nov. 14. The issues are a result of a denial of service (DOS) attack against our campus network. In these attacks, an inordinate amount of requests are sent to the campus network ultimately resulting in slow or no response rates. While we have been able to keep the campus network relatively stable, it did affect access to services through the VPN and SUNY applications.

As we head into the evening and overnight, we will continue to work with our vendor to counter the DOS attack. In addition to the impact of the above services, the attacks could also result in some instability to the on-campus network. Services may become unavailable or intermittent.

We will update the campus again tomorrow morning.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this unfortunate event.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact CTS.
